Blog Writing for Business

Blog Writing for Business

Where do you start when it comes to writing a blog about your business?

When it comes to blogging, we always say write about what you know. It’s THE most important factor. If you write about a topic which is close to your heart and which you know well, it will most certainly come across to your audience.

When starting a blog, it’s best to write down your ideas in bullet point form and then expand on them, providing a good structure. In terms of content you can share tips, tell a story, grab their interest.

Next consider your SEO (search engine optimisation). If you have a website, you should be aware of the key search terms for your business – and if not, that’s a little homework for you! Make sure you include the relevant keywords in your blog including geographical location (if appropriate), which will place your business and allow search engines to pick up the article. For instance, this blog includes the key terms: social media, blog writing, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on. Just a word of caution – don’t overstuff your blog with keywords. Above all, it should make sense!

Blogs can also form a large part of your social media strategy, providing good content and backlinks to your website. Having a clearly defined social media strategy which includes an analysis of your target audience, message, the types of social media platforms available, critical success factors and analytics, provides a solid basis for your social media activities. Don’t start your social media activities without one – check out our article ‘Social Media for Business’ in November here.
